Kids And The Cafeteria: Who Makes The Rules?
Apr 12th
I have to tell you that having a website about health and fitness and being able to use my experience to help people is truly rewarding and gratifying. Another great advantage of having a voice is that when things spark a passion within me (as almost everything does), I can use my almighty keystrokes to have my fair say and share an opinion. And this is one such instance!
A few weeks ago I wrote a post called Kids and Food: New School Rules in which I discussed how the USDA has finally decided, after 15 years, to provide more universally accepted More >
Should Obese People Pay A Fat Tax?
Apr 5th
I’m going to be honest here, I wasn’t really sure I wanted to touch this posting.
My site producer, Richard, sent me a link to a Time Magazine article outlining Arizona governor Jan Brewer’s recent proposal that obese patients on Medicaid be charged a $50 ‘fat fee’. Apparently a plan for losing weight will be available to the patients, and if they refuse to follow it, or don’t slim down, the fee will kick in. Richard wanted to know how I felt about the issue – so here’s my thoughts…
As it turns out the proposal isn’t just about weight. The article goes More >
The Death Of The Diet Pill?
Feb 8th
Those of you that know the Angry Trainer are aware that I’m not a fan of short cuts and easy fixes when it comes to fitness and weight loss.
So I was especially interested when I read this story today on the Huffington Post concerning the weight loss drug Contravene which has now been banned by the FDA due to some side effects stemming from its use.
Now personally I don’t really care what the issues surrounding the drug are, as I think any drug used for weight loss in place of healthy eating and exercise is just absurd. And as we’ve seen with More >
THE ANGRY TRAINER ANSWERS BACK!
Jan 8th
As you might imagine, I receive a lot of feedback from readers that visit my site. And while the response has been overwhelmingly positive from both at home readers and industry professionals, I on occasion get a bit of ‘hate’ mail. This particular email bothered me quite a bit because it’s an exact example of what’s wrong with this industry. Some people judge me based on my appearance, and think that because I don’t have M.D. after my name, I’m not qualified to educate people on nutrition and fitness. Here’s an example…
ASK ALFONSO: MIDNIGHT MUNCHIES
Dec 10th
Hi Alfonso,
I have a weak link in my diet – and it’s this! I can’t resist the urge to snack after my evening meal…
I’m pretty good throughout the day, but after about 8pm at night I’m terrible for eating ice cream, cookies and candy. I’m normally really tired after a busy day and feel the need to treat myself for being good on the diet front – but then I of course blow all the progress I’ve made.
My friend Carrie says I shouldn’t eat or drink after 8 o’clock at night as the sugar is stored in your body and More >
7-ELEVEN GOES VEGAN
Dec 9th
Hey everyone!
Apologies for the slightly sporadic posting over the last few days – I’ve been crazy busy on a big new project which we’ll be unveiling very soon! Trust me – it’s gonna be worth the wait!
But back to business! Earlier this week I read an interesting piece in the New York Daily News that seven 7-Eleven stores in Manhattan will soon be carrying some specifically labeled “vegan” foods. For those that don’t know what being a vegan involves, it’s a type of vegetarian diet that excludes all products derived from animals in any form such as eggs, milk, butter More >
TASTE IT OR WASTE IT: EGGS
Nov 8th
HISTORY:
Eggs have been a staple of our diets ever since the birth of man! Historians theorize that caveman learned to boil them, Greeks used them as an ingredient for baking breads, Egyptians used them as symbolic gesture to bring about fertility, and we know that modern day society uses them for just about everything from breakfast food to holiday decorations.
But in recent years eggs have earned as bad rep due to their high fat and cholesterol content, leaving everyone confused as to whether they are actually healthy to eat. Athletes have long used eggs as a source of quality protein. More >

Are The People You Hang With Making You Fat?
So today I read another new study – this time suggesting that people who are at a normal / healthy weight who come into contact with people who are obese have a greater risk of putting on weight themselves…
The findings were presented by Alison Hill, a Harvard grad student who states – and I quote – “obese people have the potential to create a ripple effect amongst their non obese peers”, she also continues to compare the rate of obesity spreading through social networks to infectious diseases like the flu… Scary stuff More >
