Ask Alfonso: How Late Can I Eat?
Apr 20th
Hi Alfonso,
I really enjoy your site! Thanks for keeping it simple and straightforward. My question is this: how late should I eat?
I have heard that you should eat about 2-3 hours before you go to sleep. I have also heard that you should eat when you’re hungry. For me the two conflict sometimes. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Naomi
Ask Alfonso: How Much Body-Fat Is Too Much?
Apr 6th
Hi Alfonso,
I was reading the piece on carbohydrates and there was a mention of 23% body fat. I have also read some people commenting on your side about having 5 to 6 % body fat …..that’s not a lot, or am I wrong? I understand people want the underlying muscles to show – but is it healthy? Aren’t you cold all the time?
I think that 23% on the other hand is too much. I have 19.6 % body fat at this time, it was 20.1 when I started working out with your program. I know it must come down too, More >
Ask Alfonso: Are All Calories Created Equal?
Mar 30th
Alfonso,
I just stumbled onto you site. I must say it is refreshing to see someone who not only is involved in the fitness industry, but also seeks to debunk some of the “mystery” surrounding tight-lipped fitness circles.
I think something that has been raising a good deal of questions lately has been, “is a calorie just a calorie?” Now, some people are saying that, simply put there is no difference. Others disagree; Dr. John Berardi comes to mind here, noting that calories are in fact not all created equal. What is your take on this?

Ask Alfonso: Confused By Carbs!
Mar 28th
Hi Alfonso,
Love the website and your crusade against the BS “fitness” industry; truly commendable.
I cannot seem to lose body fat and gain strength simultaneously. I am an endomorph (5’9″, 230 lbs, 23% body fat), and I seem to be particularly sensitive to carbohydrates. If I restrict my carbohydrate intake too much, I do not recover quickly enough. If I am more lax with my carbohydrate intake, I seem to balloon up.
I believe the problem is with my diet. I strength train and perform cardio in the gym three days a week, I captain my rugby team and have practices or games More >
ASK ALFONSO: PASTA PROBLEMS!
Nov 11th
Hello Alfonso,
Here’s my problem!
I’m 24 years old and work as a waiter at my dad’s Italian restaurant in Orlando.
I’ve been trying to stay in shape, work out 3 times a week and watch what I eat. However when I’m working I eat at the restaurant and as you can imagine it’s pasta, pasta, pasta!
After a long shift it’s hard to resist the hunger cravings and I find myself eating whole bowls or carbonara and bolognaise – foods I know are killer for my diet. I’ve tried to sample the salads, but honestly I don’t really like them, and they never More >
ASK ALFONSO: GAS EXPLOSION
Nov 9th
Hi Alfonso,
I have a slightly delicate question for you!
I’ve been weight training for years and have made some good gains in the gym. I weigh 170lbs and try and consume around 3,000 calories a day with a 30-20-50 protein, fat, carbohydrate split.
That means I need to eat 225 grams of protein a day – which I largely achieve through eating chicken, fish, protein bars and shakes.
My problem – I have quite bad wind due to all the protein I’m consuming – and, not to be blunt, but it doesn’t smell great! There’s only so many times I can leave a More >
TASTE IT OR WASTE IT- CEREAL
Oct 25th
CEREAL– where do I begin!
Have you been to your local supermarket recently and seen the huge cereal section? It looks like a library of boxes doesn’t it? Cereal is one of the few foods that has an entire aisle dedicated to showcasing all of the different brands.
As a kid I ate Lucky Charms, Count Chocula and Frosted Flakes with extra sugar on top. I remember saving all of the marshmallows soaked with milk for the very end, then I would eat them and drink all of that sugary milk. That was healthy huh? Today, we have a lot more options for cereals including the More >
