Ask Alfonso: Should I Count Calories?
Apr 27th
Hi Alfonso,
I’m wondering what your thoughts are on calorie counting? Do you believe calorie counting is necessary for people to stay at their preferred weight? I’ve counted calories and it’s always frustrating to me. Almost as if I’m a failure for not being able to just eat the right amounts of food for fuel.
I find counting calories makes me MORE obsessed with food; even eating when I’m not hungry to make sure I get “enough” calories. And I have feelings of guilt if I go over my daily allowance. It’s a vicious cycle. What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Chrystal

Ask Alfonso: Confused By Carbs!
Mar 28th
Hi Alfonso,
Love the website and your crusade against the BS “fitness” industry; truly commendable.
I cannot seem to lose body fat and gain strength simultaneously. I am an endomorph (5’9″, 230 lbs, 23% body fat), and I seem to be particularly sensitive to carbohydrates. If I restrict my carbohydrate intake too much, I do not recover quickly enough. If I am more lax with my carbohydrate intake, I seem to balloon up.
I believe the problem is with my diet. I strength train and perform cardio in the gym three days a week, I captain my rugby team and have practices or games More >
Why The Big Screen May Give You A Big Butt!
Mar 22nd
A couple of days ago one of the members of the Angry Trainer Fitness team sent me an article on The Daily that literally made my jaw drop!
The piece concerned the fat content of movie theater popcorn and some new guidelines that may soon be imposed. My colleague was quite surprised by what he read, and honestly so was I.
I think people in general view POPCORN as a healthier snack, and in some instances it may be, but not in this case. Don’t get me wrong, I always knew that movie popcorn was junk food, but I truly didn’t realize how much! More >
Diet Diagnosis: The Bodybuilder Diet
Mar 9th
I’m sure that many of you know that iron runs through my blood and I competed in amateur bodybuilding for a number of years.
My roots were obviously in the physique competition arena and truly helped shape the person you see here before you. In case you’re not familiar with who I am, check out my fitness evolution here. Needless to say, I adopted a lot of the eating habits of bodybuilders and used them to manipulate my body mass to build myself up.
So for this week’s Diet Diagnosis I’m looking at some of the common practices that bodybuilders use in More >
Diet Diagnosis: Weight Watchers
Feb 22nd
Weight Watchers – what a great name for a diet plan huh? It’s genius in every way, to the tune of almost 3 billion dollars in fact.
The nearly 50-year old company is known for its famous points system and big name celebrity endorsements and is responsible for millions of fat pounds being shed over the years. But as you may have heard the company has switched gears a bit recently and updated its calorie counting system to a newer Points Plus system.
But are the changes for the better? And is Weight Watchers for you?
Here’s the Angry Trainer lowdown…

Muscle Food: Roast Beef Wrap
Feb 17th
It’s Muscle Food time again – my weekly spot where I let you in on one of my favorite healthy recipes…
Obviously key to eating healthy is the ease with which you can make, transport, and find the ingredients needed for a healthy meal. My Roast Beef Wrap fits all three of these criteria, and it’s really simple – no cooking, very little prep and it tastes great.

Diet Diagnosis: The Grapefruit Diet
Feb 15th
It’s time for another Diet Diagnosis – and this week it’s the turn of that old favorite The Grapefruit Diet…
This “diet” (I use the word loosely) dates back to the early 1930’s, proving that people have been desperate for fast results for quite a long time now. This plan has also been known as The Hollywood or Mayo Diet (no association to the Mayo Clinic) and interestingly enough, no one knows who “invented” it and no one claims ownership. I wonder why…
Diet Diagnosis: The Raw Diet
Feb 8th
It’s Diet Diagnosis time again – and this week we’re exploring yet another trendy eating regimen that has caught on – The Raw Diet.
As the name implies, the food on this diet is mostly uncooked, including the meat! The diet claims to improve health (as all diets do), provide better energy, and help you lose body fat. But does it…?
